The University of Turku is the right choice and environment to study your Master’s Degree in biomedicine! We have several internationally distinguished research concentrations including thematic collaborations in Biofuture, Bioimaging, Drug Development and Diagnostics. Bioscience success stories are born from strong research in the fields of cancer research, molecular biosciences, and cardiovascular and metabolic diseases research. For instance, our host defence and autoimmune disease research is internationally at the top of the field, as is the development of diagnostics and imaging methods.

The exceptionally extensive campus area in Turku, called the Turku Health Campus, is a significant centre of operations in health and biosciences. The campus forms the largest multi-professional education cluster in medicine and health sciences in Finland. The Hospital District of Southwest Finland, the University of Turku, Åbo Akademi University, Turku University of Applied Sciences and Novia University of Applied Sciences are actively developing the services and operations in the area. Turku University Hospital is in the top three of the Nordic university hospitals according to the citation rates in Health Sciences.

In addition to advancing the prerequisites for research and education, the collaboration develops the business and innovation activities in the region. A majority of the new drug molecules created in Finland have been developed in Turku. In addition, roughly half of Finland’s medical and diagnostics industry is situated in Turku.

In nine subjects, including e.g. Medicine, Biological Sciences, Dentistry and Nursing, the University of Turku ranks among the 200 best in the world (QS World University Rankings by Subject 2016). 4,226 universities in 42 subject areas were evaluated, and the ranking was based on academic reputation, employer reputation and research impact.
